Wanaka Helicopters Group is a family-owned commercial operator and flight training school based in Wanaka, New Zealand.


With experience of over 40 years, we specialise in scenic and luxury flights to some of the most beautiful and remote locations in New Zealand. Alongside tourism, we provide commercial, agricultural, and charter services and operate the largest and most experienced helicopter flight training school in Australasia. We offer both private training and a Diploma in Aviation and are a NZQA certified provider, we operate under CAA Parts 119/135/137 and 141.

The opportunity 


We are offering a rare opportunity to join our team as our full-time Operations Manager / Senior Helicopter Pilot. You will have a passion for aviation and operational management, along with a positive, team-focused attitude and commitment to excellence. The role offers a unique blend of operational leadership and hands-on flying in a dynamic aviation environment.


About you


Requirements:


  • Minimum 2000 hours PIC (Helicopter)

  • NZ CPL (H) with current Class 1 medical

  • CTO/ATO operations experience

  • NZ Class 1 driver’s licence


Preferably with:


  • The requirements under CAA rule part 119 for a senior person role

  • Type ratings in R22, Cabri, R44, MD500, and AS350

  • Sling/Long Line/Fire Experience

  • Current First Aid certification

  • CAA Dangerous Goods certification

  • NZTA Dangerous Goods endorsement

  • Grade 1 or 2 Agriculture rating advantageous

  • Flight and ground instruction experience advantageous


Key selection criteria:


  • Suitable or previous experience as a Senior Person within a Part 119/135/141 organisation (advantageous)

  • Knowledge of safety management systems and a commitment to upholding exceptional safety standards

  • Proven business management experience (advantageous)

  • Excellent organisational, planning, and time management skills

  • Ability to manage and support a team of pilots, ground crew, and administrative staff

  • Strong knowledge of relevant CAA Rule Parts

  • Experience in CTO/ATO operations, ideally in New Zealand’s mountainous terrain

  • A positive, can-do attitude with flexibility to assist across all areas of the business when required
