Head of Training and Checking
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service has been providing world class aeromedical and search and rescue services to our communities in Northern NSW for over 40 years. We operate in support of NSW Ambulance from three bases; Tamworth, Belmont and Lismore, with a Head Office and engineering facility located in Newcastle, NSW.
The Service is seeking to recruit an experienced and suitably qualified Instructor Pilot to join our highly skilled team in the role of Head of Training and Checking (HoTC). Responsible for safely managing the operational training and checking activities for all flight crew, including Pilots, Air Crew Officers and Medical Specialists, the successful candidate will be an experienced trainer with proven leadership skills. While base location is flexible, the role will require regular travel to all company locations.
To be considered for this role, you will be a highly proficient AW139 Pilot who holds a Helicopter Instructor and Examiner Rating, with the ability to obtain a CASA HoTC endorsement.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
ATPL – Helicopter
Class 1 Civil Aviation Medical Certificate.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Helicopter Flight Examiner and Flight Instructor, preferably within a CAR 217 Training and Checking Organisation.
CASA Flight Instructor (Grade 1 or 2) and Flight Examiner Rating (NVIS and Instrument endorsements)
Minimum experience requirements for the role in accordance with CASA regulations
Satisfactory record in the conduct or management of air operations, training and checking.
4000Hrs PIC Helicopter
3000Hrs PIC Turbine Helicopters
1500Hrs PIC Multi-Engine Helicopters
200hrs PIC Night VFR - Helicopter
200 Hrs PIC on at least one contracted aircraft type
Multi-Engine Instrument Rating with 200Hrs PIC IFR Helicopter
100Hrs PIC NVIS Helicopter
Low Level Helicopter Rating with Winch and Sling Load Endorsements
Varied Helicopter Command experience ,with a strong emphasis in HEMS operations
CASA Approved Dangerous Good Training
Formation Helicopter Endorsement
Whilst not essential, tertiary qualifications in Leadership/Business Management together with experience working in a HEMS/SAR environment will be highly regarded.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the extensive training and regulatory knowledge required to lead the operations training team, whose aim is to ensure that our Air Transport Operation continues to operate effectively and safely, as required by our exposition and civil aviation legislation. You will have strong facilitation and training skills and be able to communicate in a professional and engaging manner to groups of people in order to promote learning and skill development.
This position is identified Category A/Category A - High Risk in accordance with NSW Health’s framework for the assessment, screening and vaccination of workers to minimise the risk of transmission of vaccine-preventable diseases. As such, it is an essential requirement of this position that you comply with the Service’s policies relating to Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases, including the provision of evidence of protection.
You will need to have the right to work in Australia and be prepared to complete a psychometric assessment, Working with Children Check and National Police History Check.
