EMS Pilot – Helicopters Otago Queenstown Base


Helicopters Otago is seeking an experienced and motivated EMS Pilot to join our Queenstown-based air ambulance crew.


Operating in some of New Zealand’s most dynamic and challenging environments, our service provides critical aeromedical response across the lower South Island. We are looking for a professional pilot who thrives in a high-performance team environment and is committed to operational excellence, and continuous improvement.


About the Role


As an EMS Pilot, you will:


  • Conduct air ambulance and rescue missions across mountainous, coastal, and remote terrain

  • Operate in a 4 on 4 off roster environment

  • Work closely with management, paramedics and other crew

  • Maintain the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and decision-making

  • Participate in training, development, and other tasks as necessary

  • Carry out pilot-maintenance on helicopters and equipment

  • Maintain our facilities and gear to the highest standards


You will be required to live within a reasonable distance from the base in order to meet requirements for night mission dispatch times.Minimum Requirements


  • CPL(H) or ATPL (H) with current Class 1 Medical

  • Minimum 3,000 hours total helicopter time

  • Minimum 2,000 hours PIC helicopter

  • Multi-engine experience

  • Unrestricted night & NVG ratings

  • Instrument Rating (Helicopter) – SPIFR

  • Mountain flying experience

  • Excellent CRM and communication skills

  • Eligibility to live and work in New Zealand


Highly Regarded


  • EMS and SAR experience

  • BK117 / EC145 / H145 ratings & experience

  • Previous single-pilot IFR operations
