Wanaka Helicopters is certified under CAA Parts 119/135/137 and Part 141. We are the industry leader in our field, an award winning South Island based company and pride ourselves in excellence in all facets of our operation. We are the largest and most successful Helicopter flight training facility in New Zealand. Our work includes but is not limited to, flight training, check and training, flight examining, scenic flights, air charter, commercial operations, lifting, fire fighting and frost protection.

We are seeking an exceptional full time Flight Training Manager to join our team of 20 permanent and part time staff. This role includes overseeing both helicopter and fixed wing flight training, responsible for coordination of training both flight and ground based training, liaises and works collaboratively with our full time academic coordinator,

The successful applicant must have a passion for Aviation and teaching. A positive can do attitude together with a team approach and strong culture of excellence is essential for this role.

  • A or B category instructor rating, Helicopter and/or Fixed wing

  • Flight and ground instruction experience

  • Flight Experience in R22, Cabri, R44, MD500 and AS350 Preferred

  • Flight Experience in Cessna 172 Preferred

  • Full Drivers License

Preferred qualifications/skills:

  • Broad and in-depth knowledge of aircraft operation, as well as general training knowledge

  • Previous experience in Flight Training/Standards

  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational abilities

  • Superior knowledge of aviation policies, procedures, and standards

  • Intermediate level computer and typing skills. Knowledge of flight planning, scheduling, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software

  • Strong management skills

  • Strong prioritisation and time management skills

  • Part 135 Flight Operations training knowledge

  • Flight examination knowledge

  • Adult or Tertiary Education certificate

  • CTO/ATO operations in NZ’s mountainous terrain

  • Proven IT/Computer experience.

  • Experience with NZQA,TEC, Studylink, Service IQ and ASPEQ

To be successful in this role you will have

  • Strong teaching skills and ability to provide a professional example to students.

  • A desire and the ability to develop and grow in flight training and also 119/135 work.

  • Ability to work unsupervised.

  • Great organisational skills.

  • Knowledge of relevant CAA rule parts.

  • Ability to work with a variety of clientele and deliver a high level of customer service.

  • Efficient and effective time management skills and forward planning.

  • Must have a can do attitude and be happy to assist in all areas of the business if required.
