About the Organisation
The Authority is a Crown entity, responsible for the safety and security of New Zealand’s civil aviation system. It has two business arms – the regulatory arm (the Civil Aviation Authority), which is responsible for the safety oversight of the New Zealand civil aviation system, and the security arm (the Aviation Security Service), which provides aviation security services at airports across New Zealand.
About the role
The Helicopter and Agricultural Unit is responsible for regulatory oversight of New Zealand commercial helicopter operators and those fixed-wing operators that conduct agricultural operations. As one of our Flight Operations Inspectors, you will be involved in the safety oversight of organisations operating in the helicopter and agricultural sectors, to assist in ensuring that they have embedded safety-standards and are actively managing their operational risks. In addition, you will be involved in safety education and promotion, spot-checks and investigations.
This role will give you the opportunity to positively influence and improve aviation safety performance by working closely with operators to promote safe practices. You will be required to exercise sound judgement and responsibility within an established operating framework. You will join the Authority at a time when Safety Management Systems are being implemented into the New Zealand aviation industry.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role we are looking for a helicopter pilot with substantial experience in a broad range of commercial operations who holds one or more specialist ratings e.g. IFR, instructor, multi-engine, agricultural. It is desirable that you have agricultural aviation operational experience. You will be able to bring your operational knowledge and experience and apply this to your work at the Authority.
You will have excellent interpersonal skills and work closely with internal and external stakeholders to provide clear and objective advice, and both make and assist with decisions about safety issues. You will be respected by others for your integrity, professionalism and aviation experience and be passionate about improving safety performance in the General Aviation sector. Your systems thinking approach combined with your ability to think critically and solve problems will be of benefit in your day to day work.
