Helicopters Otago Ltd is a family-owned and operated aviation company with over 30 years of experience providing aerial support across Otago, Southland, Westland and Fiordland.


From humble beginnings, we've grown into one of New Zealand's largest helicopter operations, with a fleet of over 20 helicopters and a dedicated team of more than 90 staff. ​


Our services encompass agricultural operations, emergency medical services (EMS), commercial charters, engineering, and pilot training. We pride ourselves on our commitment to safety, innovation, and excellence in all facets of our operation.​


The Role


We are seeking an experienced and passionate Training Manager to lead flight training within our organisation. Based out of our Taieri Airfield headquarters, the Training Manager will oversee the development and delivery of our pilot training programs, ensuring compliance with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations and maintaining the highest standards of safety and instruction.​


The Training Manager will also be required to spend time at our Queenstown EMS base.


Key Responsibilities


  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive flight training programs, including ab-initio training, type ratings, NVG training, winch training, line training and recurrent check & training.

  • Supervise and mentor flight instructors, ensuring instructional quality and adherence to regulatory standards.

  • Participate in and promote the Safety Management System

  • Plan and coordinate the internal and external use of our Entrol H145 flight simulator.

  • Maintain up-to-date training records and documentation in compliance with our exposition and CAA requirements.

  • Collaborate with other management team members to align training programs with operational needs.​

  • Carry out instructing, examining and line flying duties as required between our Queenstown and Taieri bases.


Qualifications and Experience


  • Valid New Zealand CPL or ATPL (H) and instructor ratings with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a check and training role.

  • Ability to meet the Senior Person requirements of Part 141 & 119.

  • Experience on H145, EC145, BK117, H125, B206, and Cabri helicopters desirable.

  • Strong leadership and organisational skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
