About the role We have an opportunity for a Chief Pilot to be part of our Aviation Command, Police Transport and Public Safety Command. The purpose of the Chief Pilot is to ensure that the Aviation Command ‘air operations’ are conducted in compliance with the Civil Aviation Act 1988, the Civil Aviation Regulations 1988, and Civil Aviation Orders. The Chief Pilot ensures the organisation can operate legally under an Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) ensuring focus is on safe operations whilst achieving training and operational demands in a complex and high-risk environment. The Chief Pilot is key to ensuring the Aviation Command remains contemporary in its methodology and strategic in the planning for all operational assets and resources within the Command. The Aviation Command operates a fleet of eight modern well-maintained aircraft, five helicopters and three fixed wing aircraft consisting of three Bell 429s, two Bell 412 EPIs and three Cessna Grand Caravan EXs. The aircraft are specialist mission equipped and maintained by an inhouse CAR 30 organization, in a modern spacious hanger situated at Bankstown Airport. The Aviation Command is the primary response agency for Law Enforcement, and Search and Rescue within NSW. Our operations range from proactive patrol work to high-risk rescue missions, and Counter Terrorism operations for the state. We engage with and provide support to other specialist units within the NSW Police Force including Police Rescue, Marine Area Command, Tactical Operations Group, and the State Crime Command to name a few and maintains strong working relationships with many government agencies. The Aviation Command’s HOFO manages a flexible 38-hour week roster of 15 pilots providing support to the Commands CEO (Superintendent) generally working weekdays during business hours in our new state of the art command facility at Bankstown Airport. The Chief Pilot position is contracted for 35 hours per week with the requirement to occasionally work at night or on weekends based on operational policing demands. The HOFO is responsible for all aviation training deliveries, operational procedures and maintaining a strong relationship with CASA.   • Reside within 100kms from the Aviation Command, Bankstown

  • Hold Night Visual Flight Rules (NVFR)

  • Hold Night Vision Imagery Systems (NVIS)

  • Hold Instrument Flight Rating (IFR)
