 About the role:


Victoria Police Air Wing operates single pilot multi engine AW 139 NVIS & IFR helicopters completing a wide range of tasks including Search and Rescue, Tactical deployment of Special Operation Group personnel, general support to policing, surveillance and many other tasks. The helicopters are fully NVG equipped and are fitted with Fastrope devices, winch, FLIR, and downlink to name a few. As a pilot you will participate in winching, fast roping/rappelling, airborne sniper ops, NVG operations and a wide range of tactical police ops. The Victoria Police Air Wing is based at Essendon Airfield in a large modern complex.


 Air Wing operates under CASA fatigue management conditions. Rostering includes 10 and 12 hour shifts. 12 hour shifts involve 2 day shifts followed by 2 night shifts. 10 hour shifts involves an average of 80 hours per fortnight with 6 rostered Rest days.

The successful applicant must have:


  • Current Commercial Helicopter Pilot Licence

  • Hold a Command Multi Engine, (Helicopter) Instrument rating

  • Holder of current Class 1 Aviation medical

  • Minimum 2000 helicopter flying hours with turbine experience

  • Minimum 1500 Pilot in Command hours (Helicopter)

  • Hold a Night Visual Flight Rules (NVFR) rating

  • Hold a Low Level Rating (LL) 


Desirable: 


  • Winch and Rappel endorsement with experience in winch operations

  • Night Vision Imaging System rating or experience in NVIS operations

  • AW139 type rating and experience

  • Police and or SAR experience

  • Hold Airline transport Pilot Licence


 Requirements and relevant information: 


  • One full-time, ongoing position available.

  • Salary range $136,684 - $150,919 p.a. + superannuation + $52,505 Flying Operations Allowance (depending on experience).

  • This position requires shift work.

  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head.  

  • The applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia or entitled to this status under Commonwealth law, or is a New Zealand citizen who has a special category visa or entitled to be granted a special category visa under the Migration Act 1958 of the Commonwealth.

  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.

  • Successful applicants will be required to join Victoria Police as a sworn police officer after completing initial training at the Police Academy Glen Waverley, hold a current Victoria Drivers Licence and hold or qualify for an appropriate Victoria Police driving authority within three (3) months.

  • Intrastate and interstate travel will be required.

  • Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend medical and psychological testing.
