Utility Helicopters, one of Australia’s leading helicopter training schools and air transport operators, is seeking a passionate and versatile Helicopter Theory Instructor / Line Pilot to join our growing team.

The primary focus of this role is theory instruction - you’ll be responsible for delivering engaging CPL(H) and PPL(H) courses during scheduled intakes throughout the year. Outside of course periods, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute as a line pilot, supporting our scenic and air transport operations.

We’re looking for someone who is equally enthusiastic about guiding students through their PPL(H) and CPL(H) studies as they are about representing our company with personality and professionalism in tourism operations.

What’s in it for You

We’re not just offering a job - we’re offering a career pathway:

  • Lead and develop our theory program, building your reputation as an instructor while shaping the next generation of helicopter pilots.

  • Build your flight hours while working in a supportive aviation environment.

  • Join a company with diverse operations across training, air transport, tourism, and utility work.

  • Work with a passionate team that values and supports your personal career goals.

  • Be part of a business that balances safety, professionalism, and fun.

We also offer opportunities for applicants who hold (or wish to obtain) an Instructor Rating. This provides the chance to step into the dynamic world of flight training alongside your theory instruction - a fulfilling combination and a great step forward in your career.

About You

The ideal candidate will have experience as a theory instructor with a proven ability to teach in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner. While prior experience is advantageous, it is not essential - we support the development of talented individuals with a genuine passion for aviation and teaching.

Because this role leads the theory department, you must be self-motivated, organised, and capable of working independently. We want someone who takes ownership, manages their workload efficiently, and delivers results without needing close supervision.

Essential Qualifications

  • Current CPL(H) or ATPL(H) with CASA Class 1 Medical and Red ASIC.

  • Dangerous Goods Certificate & DAMP Certificate.

  • Working with Children Blue Card.

  • Strong understanding of CASA regulations and Part 61 syllabus.

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience developing and implementing teaching and assessment plans.

  • Ability to engage students confidently in the classroom and explain helicopter theory concepts clearly.

  • Patient, approachable, and a strong commitment to providing a supportive learning environment for students.

Desirable Qualities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to different learning styles, experience and needs.

  • Deep knowledge of flight training concepts and principles.

  • Competency in computer skills and presentation software.

  • Ability to mentor and guide students.

  • Enthusiasm and willingness to collaborate within a team-oriented environment.

Interview & Assessment

Shortlisted candidates will:

  • Attend an interview (covering background, company knowledge, and theory skills).

  • Deliver a short CPL(H) theory demonstration (you will be asked to display your knowledge and teaching ability via short briefs (15 min each) on 2 subjects given to you in advance).

  • Complete a proficiency flight check with our Head of Operations/Director.

How to Apply

If you’re ready to take the next step in your aviation career, we’d love you to join the Utility Helicopters team and help shape the next generation of helicopter pilots. Whether you’re a newly licensed pilot or bring years of experience, this is an exciting opportunity to be part of a supportive team while building your skills, broadening your experience, and furthering your career as a professional helicopter pilot.

Applications close 26/09/2025 and can be submitted via Seek or emailed directly to fly@utilityheli.com.au

Please include a cover letter and CV.
