Our business portfolio covers a diverse range of helicopter services, scenic flights, commercial operations including long lining, crayfish transportation, charter boat support, mustering, search and rescue and supporting New Zealand’s scientific research community within New Zealand and Antarctica for more than 40 years. 


The Role


We are looking for a highly experienced and professional Senior Pilot, to be a part of our team at our Te Anau base. You would share responsibility for our base operations working closely with our senior operations team, whilst maintaining an operational line pilot role. 


As a Senior pilot in Te Anau, you will be capable of performing all our key scope of operations such as Medivac, SAR, precision longline, and general 135 ops.


This exciting role requires you to live within Te Anau and able to work rostered weekends. You will be a valued team member of Southern Lakes Helicopters, reporting to the Chief Pilot with the full support of our Office Administration and Safety Management teams.


Southern Lakes Helicopters is committed to investing in the right person who will form part of our team. We offer professional development in areas of technical skills development, local area familiarisation, personnel skills, and team leadership training. For the right person, there will be opportunity to experience not only our Te Anau base operation but Aoraki Mt Cook and Scott Base, Antarctica. These operations involve flying and landing on glaciers and remote locations.and experience our Mt Cook base.


Minimum Experience Required:


  • CAANZ CPLH

  • Class 1 NZ medical certificate

  • New Zealand citizen or permanent resident

  • Minimum of 5,000 hours rotary experience

  • Previous experience as a Senior Person, Lead Pilot, Manager

  • Minimum 1,000 hours AS350 experience

  • Minimum 500 hours BK117, or twin engine equivalent

  • EMS/SAR experience

  • Unrestricted night VFR rating and NVG rating

  • Hoist experience

  • Precision Longline competence

  • Extensive mountain, and snow/glacier experience

  • Full driver’s license

  • Dangerous Goods License


Desirable Experience:


  • Instructors rating.

  • EC120 rating and experience

  • Well-developed understanding of computer based aviation-based IT platforms (incl Office 365, Excel, Flight Cert, SMS, Momentum).
