Head of Training and Checking (Rotary Wing)

CareFlight was founded in 1986 as an aeromedical charity with the mission to save lives, speed recovery and serve the community. Today, we deliver services nationally. Our critical care doctors, paramedics and nurses are specially trained in emergency and trauma, pre-hospital and remote medicine and we use helicopters, jet aircraft, turbo-prop planes and road vehicles to reach and treat patients wherever they are. We run accredited training for clinical specialists; operate extensive aviation and logistic training for our employees and other organisations; run a range of free education and training programs in regional, rural and remote areas, and partner with emergency service organisations, defence forces and businesses to deliver our expertise. We currently have an excellent opportunity for a Head of Training & Checking (Rotary Wing).
Key responsibilities include:
maintaining consistent, appropriate and professional liaison with CASA on all Training and Checking Organisation, Flight Testing and Training, Part 60, 61, and CAR 217 matters;
maintaining and updating the suite of documentation applicable to the TCO including the TCM associated regulatory material;
managing the effective and efficient utilisation of all Training and Checking pilots within the Training and Checking organisation;
establishing operating procedures and techniques for CareFlight’s Training and Checking and flying operations;
management of the Training and Checking of all company operating crew in accordance with the Part 61 requirements and CAR 217 specifications;
periodically reviewing all procedures and techniques to ensure compliance with all relevant requirements;
About you
To be successful in this role you will have the following:
excellent communication, planning and organisational skills;
demonstrated working knowledge of aviation CAR 217 and associated regulations;
the ability to maintain confidentiality and the capacity to negotiate required outcomes in complex situations with minimal supervision;
a proven record of leading and managing a flying operations training team;
qualifications and experience to be appointed by the regulator to the role of Head of Training and Checking Rotary Wing (HoTC) for a CAR 217 Training and Checking Organisation;
a current FER and Grade 1 Instructors rating;
holds Training and Checking Captain approval on at least one type currently operated by CareFlight.
The following will be highly regarded:
experience in both FW and RW operations;
knowledge of 141/142 Rotary Wing Operations;
working knowledge of CASR 119 133 138;
knowledge of Registered Training Organisation (RTO) systems;
in depth knowledge of Non-Technical Skills / Human Factors / CRM;
experience in Line Orientated Safety Audits and Flight Data Monitoring programs;
experience in utilising safety outcomes to review training programs.
