The Aviator Group is seeking an experienced training manager and suitably qualified aviation professional to join our flight operations team in the role of Head of Operations (HOO). Responsible for effectively and safely managing training, checking, and flight standards activities for all flight crew, the successful candidate will be an experienced and dedicated trainer with demonstrated leadership skills. While base location is flexible, the role will require regular travel, with important access to our Head Office in Brisbane and Senior leadership team necessary.


To be considered for this role, you will be a highly proficient Pilot who holds Helicopter Instructor and Examiner qualifications, with the ability to obtain a CASA approved Head of Training and Checking (HoTC).


ABOUT AVIATOR GROUP


The Aviator Group has established itself as an industry leader in the provision of specialist Helicopter Marine Pilot Transfer (HMPT) services in Australia. Aviator Group operates a fleet of Airbus H135, Leonardo A109, and Bell BH429 aircraft in the provision of services to the maritime industry. Aviator Group also undertake Search and Rescue (SAR), executive helicopter charter and utility services to a diverse customer base. Aviator operates from multiple bases at Gladstone, Hay Point, Mackay, and Port Hedland. Scheduled growth includes additional bases, scope of operations, and aircraft including the H145.


ROLE OVERVIEW

The HOO will work collaboratively and proactively with the Chief Pilot (CP)/Head of Flight Operations (HOFO) and Accountable Manager (AM) in ensuring safe, professional, and efficient Aerial Work and Air Transport Operations.


The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive training and regulatory knowledge required to lead the operations training team in accordance with our Exposition, TACM, and relevant aviation legislation.

Strong facilitation and training skills, and ability to communicate and interact in a professional and engaging manner at all levels across the company, with an emphasis on a learning environment and skills development is fundamental.


The HOO is an integral and valued member of the senior leadership team and will be required to participate in company lead initiatives. Effective people management and leadership skills are essential for this role. The HOO will actively promote the company corporate values and safety objectives across the flight crew cohort.


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE PRE-REQUISITES

To be considered for this key flight operations training role, a successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience.

  • ATPL – Helicopter

  • Class 1 CASA Aviation Medical Certificate

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Helicopter Flight Examiner and Flight Instructor, preferably within a CASR 141/142 or CAR 217 Training and Checking Organisation

  • CASA Flight Instructor (Grade 1 or 2) and Flight Examiner Rating (NVIS and Instrument Rating endorsements)

  • Minimum experience requirements for the role in accordance with CASA regulations

  • 3500Hrs PIC Helicopter

  • 2000Hrs PIC Turbine Helicopters

  • 1500Hrs PIC Multi-Engine Helicopters

  • 200hrs PIC Night VFR - Helicopter

  • Multi-Engine (MEH) Instrument Rating with 200Hrs PIC IFR Helicopter

  • 100Hrs PIC NVIS Helicopter

  • 200 Hrs PIC on at least one contracted aircraft type desirable

  • Low Level (LL) Helicopter Rating with Winch and Sling Load Endorsements

  • Accomplished record in the conduct and management of air operations, training and checking, and flight operations leadership

  • Varied Helicopter Command experience, with a strong emphasis in Offshore and HEMS operations well regarded

  • Tertiary qualifications in business and/or aviation management desirable, but not essential
