Commercial Pilot - Ground School Instructor Position (Helicopter)

Opportunity to join one of Australia’s most respected dedicated aviation theory schools. We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced person to join our team as a Part-Time CPL Helicopter/Aeroplane and IREX Theory Ground School Instructor for both our Full-Time Classroom Ground School Courses and Distance Learning Support.

The position is for 36 weeks per year consisting of 3 x 10 week CPL Ground School Courses and (for suitably qualified applicants), 3 x 2 week IREX Ground School theory courses. Average class size 10 – 20 students. Advanced Flight Theory is a leading aviation theory school based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. The successful applicant will have a passion to train others to excel in their aviation studies, preparing students with the knowledge to pass their CASA CPL Examinations. The candidate will be a qualified Instructor that not only meets the experience and responsibilities below, but has a proven ability to assist students in a professional, positive and passionate manner.

Applicants will be interviewed by phone or in person. The position is to commence Monday 17th May, 2021.

The successful candidate is required to hold a CASA Commercial Pilot Licence (aeroplane and/or helicopter) and be able to deliver classroom Ground School Theory covering the following subjects as per the CASA CASR Part 61 MOS (Manual of Standards) AKS (Aeronautical Knowledge Standards):

  • CPL Meteorology (Aeroplane and Helicopter) (CMET)

  • CPL Navigation (Aeroplane and Helicopter) (CNAV)

  • CPL Human Factors (Aeroplane and Helicopter) (CHUF)

  • CPL Helicopter Flight Rules and Air Law (CLWA)

  • CPL Aeroplane Flight Rules and Air Law (CLWH)

  • CPL Helicopter Aircraft General Knowledge (CSYH)

  • CPL Helicopter Aerodynamics (CADH)

  • CPL Helicopter Operations, Performance and Planning (CFPH)

CASA Instrument Rating Theory Examination (IREX) preferred.

Qualification/Experience/Abilities Required:

Knowledge and certification appropriate to the position sought.

  • Must hold CASA Commercial Pilot License – Helicopter or Aeroplane. Experience in CPL ground theory training an advantage.

  • Instructor Rating preferred.

  • TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment preferred.

  • IREX examination theory credit (or Command Instrument Rating) preferred.

  • CASA ATPL theory subjects an advantage.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to instruct/teach with regard for different learner education levels, needs and experience.

  • Ability to approach problems/decisions analytically, ability to reason logically and methodically.

  • Attentiveness to detail.

  • Experience working in a professional aviation training organisation an advantage.

  • High technical knowledge of commercial aviation and flight training concepts and principles.

  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Well developed analytical and conceptual skills.

  • Ability to counsel, guide and advise students.

  • Must be enthusiastic and keen to work in a team environment.

  • Must be able to work in an unsupervised environment and promote the business.

Interview/Skills Test:

Successful applicants will undergo the following:

  • Interview (covering personal background, company knowledge and theory skills )

  • CPL Helicopter AFT Practice CyberExam (good background knowledge in all areas essential)

  • CPL Helicopter Theory Demonstration (you will be asked to display your teaching ability via short briefs (15 min each) on 2 subjects given to you in advance).
