We have an opportunity for a dual role co-pilot and Aircrew Officer (ACO) to join us in a fulltime role working in a HEMS operation engaged in day and night operations. This is a full-time permanent position based in Ardmore.


Role Responsibilities:


Our Co-pilot/Aircrew Officers are experts in:


  • Piloting as co-pilot and supporting the pilot in command in the conduct of flying operations.

  • ACO duties including all facets of hoist and confined area operations.

  • The ability to work well in a team environment, especially when under pressure, and communicate effectively with crew, patients, families, and stakeholders is as important as your technical skills.

You will be someone with:


Essential Qualifications as Co-Pilot:


  • CPL (H)

  • Instrument Rating exam credit.

  • Unrestricted Night rating.

Essential Qualifications as an ACO


  • Must have a valid NZ driver’s license or be eligible to apply for one.

Desirable qualifications:


  • Instrument Rating (H) or (A)

  • NVG experience.

  • SAR/HEMS/EMS experience.

  • Qualified, experienced winch operator with authorisations for all aspects of hoisting.

  • Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) qualification & Emergency Breathing Systems (EBS) experience.

Attributes and Behaviors:


  • Have empathy and excellent communication skills.

  • Work well in a team under pressure and be able to work roster shifts.

  • Be culturally sensitive, able to work with a diverse group of patients.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • IT literate.

Main Responsibilities:


  • Carry out duties as a HEMS Co-Pilot/ACO in accordance with CAA requirements and the Northern Rescue exposition.

  • Undertake aviation related duties on behalf of Northern Rescue.

  • Regular liaison with colleagues, HEMS crew, engineering and appropriate third parties.

  • Assist with operational and training requirements.

  • Maintain and demonstrate an active interest in the overall activities of NRHL and reflect the organization’s vision, mission, and values in all communications with the public.

  • Be prepared to attend occasional promotional or fundraising events either as part of a team or as an individual to support and promote our activities.
