Global Leaders in Aerial Firefighting Coulson Aviation (Coulson Aircrane Ltd.) is a privately owned family company based in Port Alberni, British Columbia, Canada. The company has over 160,000 safe flight hours and has been in the aviation business for over 36 years; operating a diverse fleet of both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. The company's operations have included helicopter logging, forest fire suppression, power-line construction, airliner passenger transport and many other industrial heavy lift operations. The fleet is geared for mobility and self-sufficiency and is supported by mobile fuel tankers and aircraft maintenance service vehicles staffed with qualified engineers.

These aviation services are provided to clients on a "turnkey" basis. Coulson Aviation(USA) Inc. was founded in 1990 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Coulson Aircrane Ltd. From 1990 to 1993 Coulson Aviation (USA) provided the personnel for extensive heli-logging operations in Alaska. In the succeeding years, Coulson Aviation (USA) purchasedits first C-130 Hercules that currently holds contracts within the United States and Australia. A second C-130 Hercules was acquired for the program in 2015 to accommodate the growing need for large air tankers.

Coulson Aviation (Australia) PTY Ltd was created in 2010 to support Coulson Aviation's long-term operations and commitment to its Australian customers. It was setup as a wholly owned subsidiary of Coulson Aircrane Ltd. to provide aircraft personnel for Coulson’s rotary and fixed wing aircraft operating under contract in Australia for Firefighting and offshore oil applications.

Coulson Aircrane Ltd. (Port Alberni, BC) operate a Business and Quality Management System certified to ISO 9001:2015 + AS9100D for the manufacturing of parts and assemblies, including post-delivery support.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

We are looking for Pilots to join our team in Australia.This position will operate year-round, and is based out of Bankstown Airport.Pilots are responsible to perform aerial fire suppression by piloting RFS owned helicopters over all types of terrain during aerial firefighting. Besides fire suppression pilots will transport crew and equipment, perform reconnaissance, medical rescue, disaster mitigation and related activities.

The pilot is responsible for the overall operation of Rural Fire Service aircraft, and is the final authority for all safety-of-flight aspects of flying the helicopter.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

•Operates medium size turbine powered helicopters over all types of terrain to suppress wild-land and other types of fires; may be involved in making water/foam drops in assigned fire suppression target areas, effecting rescues, and transporting firefighter crews and logistical materials to the fire line.

•Reviews and maintains written and computerised flight logs and records.

•Operates special helicopter accessory equipment to carry-out fire suppression missions, which may include: fixed water tank, hydraulic snorkel, external water bucket, sling loads, rescue hoist, seeder, and heli-torch

•Maintains self and helicopter in a constant state of readiness for dispatch to emergency and non-emergency alarms; or to assigned locations for ready response standby.

•Researches, develops and writes procedures for Helicopter Program.

REQUIREMENTS:

•Three (3) years of full-time experience flying as Pilot-In-Command in busy urban Tower Controlled Areas.

•Three (3) years of full-time experience flying as Pilot in Command in Fire Operations

•Three (3) years for Passenger Charter 133 experience

Flying Hours as Pilot-In-Command as Follows:

  • Helicopter -3,000 hours.

  • Type II turbine powered helicopters -750 hours

  • Mountainous terrain on unimproved landing area at altitudes exceeding 1000 meters.

  • Performing low level missions in fire control, map survey, news media, power line patrol, search and rescue, aerial spraying, or seeding operations over mountain or forested areas and over water operations; or comparable military experience -500 hours.

  • Night flying in Helicopter -100 hours.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE OR SKILLS:

  • Possession of a valid FAA/CASA Flight Instructor Certificate.

  • Knowledge of Incident Command System, local topography, and area weather conditions.
