McDermott Aviation, Australia’s largest privately-owned heli-aviation company, is seeking experienced, IFR/NVG-qualified helicopter pilots for contract positions during the upcoming Australian Fire Season. With over 40 years of experience in aerial firefighting, heavy lifting, and emergency operations, we operate a fleet of 50+ aircraft across some of the world’s most challenging environments.


The Role


As a pilot with McDermott Aviation, you will operate a diverse fleet of helicopters on missions including:


  • Aerial firefighting

  • Emergency response and medical support

  • Specialised IFR and NVG missions


You will be responsible for:


  • Ensuring safe and compliant operations under CASA, FAA, and company regulations.

  • Conducting thorough pre- and post-flight inspections.

  • Monitoring weather, flight conditions, and operational risks.

  • Collaborating effectively with crew, engineers, and support staff to maintain mission readiness.

  • This role requires flexibility, adaptability, and strong decision-making in fast-paced, high-risk environments, including night and instrument flight operations.


Who We’re Looking For


We are seeking professional pilots who are:


  • CASA CPL(H) and FAA CPL(H) holders

  • IFR-rated, with multi-engine experience preferred

  • NVG-qualified, with recent NVG operational experience

  • Minimum 1500 hours total flight time, including 500 hours turbine experience

  • At least 100 hours on medium-class helicopters (AS355, AS365, B212/412, B214, B205, or similar)

  • In possession of a current medical certificate

  • Hold a valid passport and can pass a pre-employment DAMP test

  • Additional desirable experience: firefighting, SAR, EMS, or other high-intensity operations.
