CQ Rescue is a leading provider of aeromedical and emergency helicopter services across Central Queensland. Based in Mackay, we deliver critical medical transport and rescue capability to regional and remote communities, working closely with Queensland Health, emergency services, and key stakeholders.
We are seeking an experienced and highly capable General Manager – Flight Operations to lead and oversee our helicopter operations at a strategic and operational level. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for the safe, compliant, and effective delivery of services, within a high-trust, values-driven culture.
The Role
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and forming part of the senior leadership team, this role has overall responsibility for the safe, compliant, and effective management of CQ Rescue’s flight operation. The successful applicant will be required to hold CASA approval as Head of Flying Operations (HOFO).
You will lead a multidisciplinary team of up to 20 direct reports, driving operational excellence while ensuring the highest standards of safety, regulatory compliance, and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic and effective leadership of all flight operations.
Maintain regulatory compliance, including fulfilling responsibilities as Head of Flying Operations.
Ensure the safe, efficient, and effective conduct of complex Leonardo AW139 helicopter operations.
Lead, mentor, and manage operational leaders and frontline aviation personnel.
Drive continuous improvement in safety systems, quality assurance, and risk management.
Contribute to organisational strategy as a member of the senior leadership team.
Build strong relationships with the regulator, our partners, and key external stakeholders.
About You
You are a proven or emerging aviation leader with a strong background in conducting and managing complex helicopter operations in high-reliability environments such as emergency services, aeromedical, offshore, or military aviation.
You will bring:
Eligibility for CASA approval as Head of Flying Operations.
Demonstrated experience in compliant, safe, and efficient aviation operations management.
Strong leadership capability with experience managing diverse operational teams.
High-level understanding of aviation safety systems and regulatory frameworks.
Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and decision-making skills.
A collaborative leadership style and a commitment to organisational values and culture.
