COMPANY PROFILE

Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) is built on one principle; to save lives. SLSQ is the state’s leading authority on aquatic safety and surf rescue, and one of the largest volunteer-based community service organisation’s in Australia. Since it’s inception in 1909, SLSQ’s surf lifesavers and lifeguards have directly saved the lives of more than 135,00 people through in-water rescues and educated in excess of 10 million people about surf and aquatic safety through targeted and grassroots community awareness programs.

Last season alone, our 30,500+ surf lifesavers, lifeguards and educators; • Performed 3,600 rescues • Saved 810,855 lives through proactive preventative actions • Completed 352,807 volunteer patrol hours • Performed 20,895 First Aid Treatments • Trained 15,747 on how to save a life (First Aid & CPR courses) • Reached 720,783 people through Community Awareness Programs

As a non-for-profit organisation, SLSQ relies heavily on fundraising, community support and donations to continue our vital work both on and off Queensland’s beaches. It is the generous support of Queenslanders that literally keeps us afloat to continue to save lives in Queensland public waters.

Helicopter Pilot

Your Opportunity

Surf Life Saving Queensland’s (SLSQ) Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service (WLRHS) is one of the oldest community-based helicopter rescue services in the world. The service has been operating across the SEQ region since 1976 with a highly trained team of skilled men and women; the service exists for one purpose – to save lives. The Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service is also used for emergency response, searches & rescues and working in conjunction with emergency service organisations including; the Queensland Police Service, Australian Maritime Safety Authority, and Queensland Fire & Emergency Services.

SLSQ’s Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service operates 3 multi engine helicopters across 3 bases.

As a pilot for the WLRHS you’ll have one of Australia’s most exciting flying jobs and will be able to use your professional qualifications in a broad range of low-flight, rescue and tactical missions/operations. All that plus meaningful experiences where you know you are making a positive impact in the Queensland community everyday.

You will contribute to saving lives by; • Flying helicopters on search and rescue, counter disaster and other support tasks as directed • Carrying out duties and training in accordance with CASA regulations and the SLSQ

Operations Manual

• Ensuring the Chief Pilot is promptly advised on all matters affecting the safety, serviceability or effectiveness of aircraft or the operation • Ensuring that there are no breaches of the CASA regulation or internal policies or procedures • Acting as an ambassador for SLSQ and WLRHS

If we could compose the “Perfect You”, you approach situations with a positive outlook & disposition, are professional & willing to follow protocol, and have never uttered the words “that’s not my job”. We are looking for a high performance individual that understands how their role contributes to the greater success of the organisation and is always willing to go the extra mile without being asked. Due to our core business (saving lives), it is operationally critical for the successful candidate to reside within 40 minutes of the WLRHS Carrara hangar.

What skills, experience and qualifications do you need? • Commercial Helicopter Pilot License – Essential • 2,000 Hours Pilot in Command (Helicopter) – Essential • 1,000 Hours Turbine – Essential • 100 Hours NVFR – Essential • Working with Children Blue Card or ability to obtain one quickly – Essential • NVIS Rating – Highly Desirable • EC135 Type Rating – Desirable • BO105 Type Rating – Desirable • Winch Rating – Desirable
